JOEL WANEK is a photographer and educator that splits time between Durham, NC and Chicago. He is available for editorial and documentary commissions, event documentation, portraits and special assignments.

Joel has taught photography at many of Chicago's premier arts organizations including the Museum of Contemporary Photography, Center for Community Arts Partnerships, Chicago High School for the Arts, Marwen Foundation and the Hyde Park Arts Center.

His photographs have been featured in a diversity of publications including Stop Smiling, DownBeat, Jazz Times, Chicago Sun-Times, The Chicago Reader, ZoneZero, Vibrations (France) & The New Cosmos of Photography (Japan). He has participated in group shows at Andrew Rafacz Gallery, The Hyde Park Art Center and Center for International Performance and Exhibition (CIPEX) in Chicago, and Centro Nacional de las Artes (CENART) in Mexico City.

Currently Joel is pursuing his MFA in Experimental Documentary Arts at Duke University and holds a BA in Photography from Webster University in St. Louis. He has carried out advanced studies at The Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University and spent one year in the MFA Photography program at Columbia College Chicago.
